Classic Movie Gift Guide
In honor of springtime, here is another Classic Movie Gift Guide! I’ve picked more Old Hollywood-inspired goodies for you or someone special who might love some movie treats or classic style. I hope there is something on this list that strikes your fancy. And be sure to check out my previous Classic Movie Gift Guides for more movie-inspired gift ideas!
- A subscription to FilmStruck!
I’ve included this one before, but the partnership between the Criterion Collection and Turner Classic Movies just got even better! Warner Bros. has added their digital collection to the site, which includes such iconic films as Singin’ in the Rain, The Thin Man, and Casablanca, among many others. The constantly refreshed selection of 600 classic movies also includes the TCM Select collection, which offers introductions and special content exclusive to FilmStruck. The site’s collection of art house, indie, and foreign movies is available, too, and subscriptions start at just $6.99 a month.
- A truly classic monogrammed robe!
No classic movie character is ever without their “dressing gown” or bathrobe, and that glamorous custom deserves a comeback! You can find my picks of monogrammable robes for men and women at Land’s End, the Company Store, and Amazon. (For matching jammies, visit this Gift Guide.)
- A great book on classic movies to read in your new robe!
John DiLeo’s new book, Ten Movies at a Time: A 350-Film Journey Through Hollywood and America 1930-1970, is a very accessible read perfect for those new to classic movies or buffs looking to brush up on their history. In each chapter, DiLeo tackles ten movies chronologically and/or thematically to give much needed context to genres, stars, and trends. His selection of 350 movies means that even the most dedicated fan will find new ones to watch, and the structure of the book is great for those new to classic Hollywood.
For example, if you love Casablanca and want to know about other war movies, the chapter “Yankee Doodle Daffy: World War II, The Comic Book Edition” will give you ten movies produced around the same time as Casablanca, along with a discussion of their themes and production. You’ll come away with a better understanding of Hollywood in the 1930s-1970s, and probably a long list of movies to watch! Plus, I really like how DiLeo includes all kinds of movies, not just those in the “classics” canon. As you know if you read this blog, not every movie from classic Hollywood is great or even good, but you can still enjoy and learn from the “bad” or “unsuccessful” ones.
- Movie night swag!
Turn your movie nights into something extra special with themed pillows, movie theater popcorn bags or reusable popcorn tubs, and this super fun clapboard rug. Find it all on Amazon and turn your home theater into a Hollywood haven.
- A cheerful music print of a favorite song!
The Etsy store Vintage Art Decors‘ “Good Morning” print from Singin’ in the Rain would be adorable in a bedroom, especially for those of us who aren’t morning people. The shop also has a Gene Kelly-on-the-lampost Singin’ in the Rain print, as well as options from Casablanca and The Sound of Music.
- A hair ornament for a touch of classic glamour!
Ladies in old movies often accessorize with flowers or pins in their hair, especially for nights out. Why not add some of that elegance to your own wardrobe with these pretty options from Etsy? If the classic gardenia from Gardenia Bridal Studio feels too bridal, the shop also has orchids, hydrangeas and other flowers. Or you can go for the whimsical felted wool pins from Model Institution, or choose from the shop’s selection of cherry blossoms, daisies, and other floral pins. Luxe Buffalo offers some gorgeous metal options in various floral and leaf designs, as well as stars, bumble bees, and many other gorgeous choices.
- Luggage stickers!
Characters in old movies often decorate their trunks and suitcases with hotel, cruise line, or destination labels. It used to be a practical way to keep track of one’s stuff, but now it evokes a more glamorous age of travel. These stickers can be applied to luggage, laptops, notebooks, walls, etc. You can find them at CuteStickersCo or TheHeadrush on Etsy.

- Phone decals to express your classic movie style!
The Etsy shop Mirshka Studio has The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, and Mary Poppins decals, among many others. I’ve mentioned these before as fun options for light switch covers or laptops, but I love the idea of a phone decal!
